Accessibility

We want this site to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or reduced motion settings. That work is never finished, so this page sets out what we have done, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.

The standard we work to

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and we are progressively adopting the additional criteria in WCAG 2.2. These are the guidelines referenced by the Australian Government's Digital Service Standard.

The site has not yet been through a formal independent accessibility audit, so we describe ourselves as working towards these standards rather than certified against them. We would rather be accurate about that than claim conformance we have not tested.

What we have done

• Every page starts with a "Skip to content" link, so keyboard users can bypass the navigation.
• Pages use real headings in a logical order, so screen reader users can navigate by structure rather than reading everything in sequence.
• Interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard, with visible focus indicators.
• Images that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
• Colour is never the only way we convey information.
• Text contrast is checked against the navy, orange and white in our brand palette.
• Motion and scroll animations respect the "reduce motion" setting in your operating system.
• The site reflows to a single column on small screens and supports browser zoom without loss of content.

Where we know we fall short

Being honest about the gaps is more useful than a blanket claim:

• Some older insight articles were published before our current standards and may have headings or link text that could be clearer.
• Documents shared with clients through our client hub are produced individually, so accessibility varies by document. Tell us if you need one in a different format.
• Third-party content we embed, such as fonts and analytics, is outside our direct control.

It helps if you can tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology or browser you were using. We will acknowledge your message within two business days and tell you what we can do and by when.

If you need information from this site in another format, ask us. We will provide it at no cost.
